MAY & BAKER R.U.F.C

Old Bealonians 19 February M&B Opposition Scorers 13 5

May and Bakers 2nd XV were once again traveled short, arriving with just 14 players. This however did not stop this determined bunch of reprobates. The away team took the lead mid-way through the first half with winger Matt scoring in the corner after standing Captain Jamie broke down the blind side after a sturdy scrumage from the Baker forwards. Allowing the pass to the rapid Matt. All he had to do was beat his opposite winger for the score. Lee dyer was unlucky with the conversion with the ball going just wide. The home side scored next but failed to convert for the full seven. Some good passing between Bakers backs allowed James lock to break a tackle to go on and score a try from his own half, Again an unlucky Lee failed to convert giving the away team a 10-5 lead. Bakers gave a solid second half performance with some great defensive tackling to keep Old Beals at bay and with ten minutes to go bakers got a penalty just outside the 22. Lee Dyer finally put his boots on the right feet to put bakers 13-5 up. Bakers managed to hold out for the remainder of the game despite a number of injuries to the backs.

MAY AND BAKER SECOND XV TRAVELED TO A WINDY BRENTWOOD WITH JUST 12 PLAYERS. BRENTWOOD WERE ABLE TO LEANED STANDING BAKERS CAPTAIN JAMIE YATES 3 PLAYERS SO THE TEAMS STARTED ON AN EVEN PLAYING FIELD. AFTER SOME REORGANIZING OF THE PLAYERS THE GAME KICKED OFF. BRENTWOOD STARTED THE SCORING WITH AN UNCONVERTED TRY. BAKERS REPLIED WITH A TRY IN THE CORNER FROM FULLBACK CHRIS WHO CHASED A CROSS FIELD KICK FROM JAMIE TO SCORE DESPITE A HIGH TACKLE FROM BRENTWOOD'S FULLBACK. LEE DYER WAS UNLUCKY WITH THE CONVERSION. BAKERS SCORED AGAIN WHEN JAMIE INTERCEPTED A PASS FROM BRENTWOOD FLYHALF.HE THEN PLAYED LEE DYER IN TO SCORE A TRY NEAR THE POST IN WHICH LEE CONVERTED HIMSELF. THAT GAVE BAKERS THE HALF-TIME LEAD 5-12. THE SECOND HALF SAW BRENTWOOD APPLY A LOT OF PRESSURE ONTO BAKERS AND THEY SCORED A COUPLE MORE TRIES TO PUT THEMSELVES IN FRONT. THEN JAMIE COMING BACK FROM OFFSIDE CALLED FOR THE BALL FROM ONE OF BRENTWOOD'S PROPS WHO WAS 5 YARDS FROM BAKERS LINE. THE PROP PASSED AND JAMIE CLEARED HIS LINES BUT FAILED TO FIND TOUCH. JAMIE THEN MANAGED TO SHOW SOME SOCCER SKILLS AND COVERING THE LENGTH AND THE WIDTH OF THE PITCH TO SCORE IN THE CORNER. LEE DYER FAILED WITH THE CONVERSION DUE TO THE STRONG WINDS. BRENTWOOD FINISHED THE SCORING TO AN ENJOYABLE GAME PLAYED IN GOOD SPIRITS. JAMIE WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE PLAYERS WHO TURNED UP FOR GAME AND THE BRENTWOOD CAPTAIN FOR LENDING HIM 3 PLAYERS. Eaton Manor A 12 March M&B Opposition Scorers 24 5

A good win for a strong home team, combining a nice mix of 1st and A players. Bakers got off to a good start with some fast and flowing rugby. Dave M playing at half back was determined to distribute the ball out to the backs. With Dougie and James L in the Centre this was not a bad decision. The forwards were not to be out shadowed by pushing the oposition pack all around the park. The dead lock was broken when when after much pressure the defense broke scored in the corner. The conversion was missed but the tempo was set. This continued into the 2nd half with a further 2 tries scored. The game was marred by a number of front row injuries all of which were accidental and our best is sent to the Eaton boys. The game was played in go spirit and the only highlight of note was GarryO's drop kick to convert the third try. He'll never kick another one like that again.

Cuffley September 4, 2004 M&B Opposition Scorers 7 30 T: P Dane C: Lumpy

A much weakened and inexperienced 1st XV traveled up to Cuffley for this powergen Vase encounter. With Skipper, vice Skipper and six other of last years key team members away M&B put a very encouraging performance.

A very experienced and physical Cuffley pack spent the first half of the match trying to punch holes in the away teams defense but to no avail. The dead lock was only broken when a quick tap penalty from 10 yards was scored and the easy conversion made. Further points followed with the first half finishing 18-0. The 2nd half saw a number of old but experienced players enter to try and spark a revival. Martin Parker came on and even though he has not trained in 6 weeks proved what a bit of experience brings. The home teams pack were slowed (but should have been awarded 2 further tries) and the M&B team resorted to last seasons set plays and the team hit a purple patch of about 20 minutes where a score was converted and a further two should have been scored but for some poor finishing.

The game was always threatening to boil over but never did. Although 4 yellow cards (2 from each team) for minor handbags were handed out.

The away team saw the debuts of two new boys, Lee and one of the twins!!

Foran, although sin binned for offside played his first competitive game at scrum half did well.

The final word should go to Liam who under great pressure handled the team and the day with great dignity. I believe we saw (and was not the only one) a future M&B skipper.
